Building systems commissioning is the process of providing a building owner with a building that is complete, in compliance with the plans and specification, and operationally and functionally ready to be taken over by the owner.

Significant cost savings and energy savings have been realized through building systems commissioning. Studies on system commissioning show average energy savings between 15 to 30 percent. But improvements in indoor air quality and other non-energy benefits may be more important than the energy savings benefits. A properly commissioned building is likely to have lower energy cost, improved equipment maintenance and fewer complaints from occupants.
