Mark oversees implementation of the innovative mechanical HVAC solutions clients need to meet today’s demanding facilities and business challenges. In addition, he manages Gowan Mechanical Services’ team of over 600 field/shop employees who handle detailing, purchasing, fabrication, project management, and field construction functions for major new construction and renovation projects that involve piping, plumbing, sheet metal, and HVAC.
Throughout every project phase, from conceptual design to service and maintenance, he combines his own experience with Gowan Mechanical Services’ staff expertise and extensive production facilities to create and implement consistently effective solutions. Always, his goal is to ensure that every organizational level is completely committed to solving clients’ problems and is properly equipped with all the resources they need. This, he believes, is the right formula for projects that build clients’ confidence and encourage repeat business.
LEED, HVAC & Mechanical Services Industry Expertise
Mark’s career in the Houston mechanical engineering and construction industry spans more than 30 years, including over 17 years with Gowan Mechanical Services. His expertise covers all industry levels, from pipefitter and service mechanic to head of his own engineering/contracting company. He has extensive experience with commercial buildings, institutions, campuses, hospitals, central plants, research facilities, aircraft manufacturing sites, and national defense projects.
Mark earned a bachelor’s with honors in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He holds professional air conditioning and refrigeration licenses in two states, as well as engineering licenses in several states. He also is a United States Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-accredited professional. In addition, he has held several levels of security clearances.
Mark is a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers; the National Society of Professional Engineers; the American Association of Cost Engineers; and the Construction Industry Council, where he represents the MCAA (Mechanical Contractors Association of America.
The Personal Side
Mark and his wife, Olivia, enjoy not having the kids at home anymore. They also like to fish and hike in the Texas outdoors, especially at their home on Lake Livingston. In addition, Mark likes to read history, science, philosophy, and theology, as well as techno-thrillers. Both he and his wife are instrument-rated private pilots.
