SCOPE OF SERVICES
Given its extensive healthcare experience, Gowan was the logical choice to replace this client's outdated air-handling units with new more modern versions that more effectively maximize comfort in key spaces. The company's scope of work required removing two 40-year-old air-handling units, including the largest in the hospital, and installing replacement units that would achieve the client’s objectives. The company had to build one of these replacement units around an existing building column. The unit consisted of individual panels, fans, a 125-horsepower motor, chilled water coils, and steam coils. Gowan also put in a modular production air-handling unit with a 30-horsepower motor.
This project had to be completed while maintaining airflow and pressurization within the functioning 24/7/365 hospital environment. To achieve this, Gowan installed two temporary direct expansion cooling units, a temporary chilled water unit, two temporary electric heating units, two temporary return air fans, and 30 temporary spot cooling units in critical areas. This equipment maintained a comfortable environment in the facility's occupied spaces while Gowan removed and replaced the permanent air-handling units. In addition, to reduce disruption, Gowan delivered the project quickly by working in shifts 24 hours a day until work was completed.
