Hess Data Center, Discovery Tower HOUSTON, TX
VALUE DELIVERED
A professional mechanical system installation; an HVAC system specifically designed to meet data center requirements; flexible and convenient system monitoring capabilities; a comfortable and productive environment; reliable mission-critical operations; ability to consolidate locations, reducing real estate expenses and centralizing activities for improved communication and more efficient coordination.
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
To build an energy-efficient, high-quality data center with back-up HVAC and generator systems; to consolidate three smaller centers, while still allowing for future growth.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Gowan helped this client meet its objectives by installing a comprehensive mechanical system specifically designed for data center implementation. The scope of work included installing 29 Liebert units, which were connected to the main chilled water source. These units help protect the data center’s mission-critical applications from temperature increases.
In addition, the company put in four fan coils, one air handler, and all associated piping, ductwork, and controls, as well as a new backup air-cooled chiller that can operate on generator power. The installation also included a Liebert Scan System. Designed for a 24,000 s.f. data center, this system lets the client maximize energy efficiency by monitoring every piece of equipment on the data center floor, including electrical equipment, from both onsite and offsite locations.
SOLUTIONS
Since the Liebert units for this project were too large to fit into the building, Gowan had to disassemble 26 of the 29 units and transport them piece-bypiece in the elevator. During this time, the company tracked each individual unit. To maintain the manufacturer’s warranty, the units were then reassembled under the manufacturer’s supervision.
